Ok, in the life I have lived around the computers. I can honestly say I have only been compromised twice and both times where my fault.Password protocols are important and I have learned to keep my passwords as safe as I can. After an experience that shook me to the bone. My complacency with passwords was not really the issue (but shame on me for not changing them more frequently) so much as being too curious for my own good and not doing my due diligence.
I subscribed to a site twtad/revtwt (the one points to the other) and it jacked my Twitter account, my primary Google account ( as well as my twitter, linkedin and facebook). My bank and poker data where safe and only attached by way of a third party proxy.
I was thankful that the process did not allow for a bank draft into and out of my account. That would of been tempting due to the nature of the possibilitiess of a adsense like twitter, fortunately it did not and Paypal is a level removed from my primary bank accounts.
Too bad this was crooked as I could see a few possibilities with this business model.
But through quick thinking. I immediately executed password retrieval protocols, through question/answer pass-phrases to get back into Paypal and a text request to my cell phone to give me re-activation codes for Google to enable me to change my password.
I never really thought I would have my account compromised and the secession of my other connected accounts compromised as well. My only saving grace was this was done by a bot and not a active hacker, if some one was able to capture my username/password credentials for my account, log in and change my security question and change my emergency cell phone options to goto the evil hackers instead of me then that ID is pretty much fucked, I have and many others have attempted to get a live person at Google and they make it effectively impossible to do.
I am just glad I was able to save it.
This link was one Google search away and it would of tipped me off to twtad's legitimacy
